POLYDEX® is a copper based algaecide that provides broad spectrum algae control. Its easy to apply and safe for ponds with fish at the recommended dosage rates ( 0.06 parts per million ). POLYDEX® is
safe for drinking water applications at dosages up to 1.0 ppm. Application
Instructions: Please Read
ENTIRE sheet and refer to example calculations.
The most important step is calculating your pond volume. Use
one of the following formulas. Please
measure the actual depth of the pond and pace off the dimensions if
possible, as we have found most estimates are inaccurate. Man Made Pond (steep slope): Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Depth (ft) x 0.7 = Cubic Feet x 6.23 = IMP Gallons Natural Pond (shallow slope): Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Depth (ft) x 0.3 = Cubic Feet x 6.23 =
IMP Gallons Once you know the volume of your pond, obtain the Initial Application of POLYDEX® (in liters) from the chart below. In ponds with fish, use the lower section of the table. Apply 25% of the Initial Application on Day 1 and the balance in 3 equal amounts with 2 – 3 days between each treatment. In ponds without fish, use the upper portion of the table and the entire application can be done at once.
POLYDEX® can easily be applied using a garden or backpack
sprayer with a
5:1 dilution of water. It can
also be diluted 5:1 in a pail and poured into the pond at different
locations. POLYDEX® is hydrophilic
or self dispersing; don’t worry too much about applying it evenly as it
mixes throughout the pond on its own.
If possible rake out any floating algae off the pond surface.
This will result in using less POLYDEX® because there
will be less algae to absorb it.
Ideally a full Initial
Application of POLYDEX® should be
applied to the pond right in the spring and then a full Initial
Application amount done at the very first sign of visible algae.
This will allow for residual POLYDEX® to remain in the
water to help prevent future blooms. Applying
it this way will result in the clearest water and the least amount of POLYDEX® used over the
summer. Using the product to prevent
algae blooms is much more cost effective than using it to treat
algae blooms.
EXAMPLE: Man made dugout with fish. Pond dimensions: 100 feet long, 75 feet wide, 14 feet deep. 100ft x 75ft x 14ft = 105,000 cu.ft x .7 = 73,500 x 6.23 = 457,905 Imp. Gallons.
The Initial Application of POLYDEX® from the lower chart "WATER WITH FISH" is
1L for 220,300 Imp G. so for approx 440,000 gallons, 2 Liters of POLYDEX® would be needed.
Day 1: Treatment is 25% of 2
liters = 500 ml of POLYDEX® Mix with 2.5
liters of water & apply. Day 4: Treat with 500 ml of POLYDEX® mixed with 2.5 L of water.
Day 7: Treat with 500 ml of POLYDEX® mixed with
2.5 L of water.
Day 10: Treat with 500 ml of POLYDEX® mixed with
2.5 L of water.
Higher initial contamination requires more POLYDEX® to obtain a complete kill. Once algae and bacteria growth has been stopped and the microorganisms have died, less POLYDEX® is needed for continuous protection from new contamination. POLYDEX® is an ionized
copper based algaecide. Its innovative formula uses natural minerals to provide excellent control
of algae and suppression of bacteria in ponds, dugouts, lagoons, potable
water storage tanks, etc.
